Kyung Won Chung PhD (Author)
On April 1, 2008, Professor Kyung-won Chung from the industrial design department of KAIST generously donated a handsome amount of 10 million won for the growth and betterment of the department. Known to be one of the crucial members and pivots to have created the industrial design department at KAIST in 1986, Professor Kyung-won Chung was first appointed to KAIST as a professor on 1984 (then, KAIST was called KIT).
He was one of the leaders in educating industrial designers while considering science and engineering at the same time. From the year 2000-2003, he became the first official to be appointed to the KIDP (Korea Institute of Design Promotion) whose primary job was not government oriented. There, he improved financial structures and reformed organizational systems regarding design while also holding successful conferences and competitions for designers. Along with all of the aforementioned accomplishments, he also received the prestigious Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit Award in the year 2003 for his meritorious contributions and promotions regarding the improvement of the Korean designing industry.
IDKAIST is currently holding a fundraising project with the slogan of “tea with the juniors.” Its main purpose is for the development of the industrial design department of KAIST. Many graduates, professors, employees, etc. have already contributed and have ignited the project. Funds will be used for beneficial purposes such as improving education and creating better environments so that students may thrive. People who would like to participate in fundraising can easily receive information through the department office.
